The Hall Of Mirrors, Palace Of Versailles
Château De Versailles is now offering a private virtual tour of the former home of French royalty. Get up close and personal with the kings and queens who lived at Versailles without leaving the comfort of your home.
The Palace was used to house French royalty until 1789 when the French Revolution forced Louis XVI to leave Versailles and head to Paris. During the 19th century, the Palace was transformed into a museum, by order of King Louis-Philippe. The rooms where royalty once slept, dined, and entertained were then devoted to displayed paintings and sculptures that represented the beauty and history of France.
The art collections expanded until the early 20th century when the Palace’s most famous curator rediscovered the historical significance of the palace, itself. The central part of the palace was restored to look exactly like it has when it was a residence to the royals.
